PROJECT DETAIL

June 2004 – August 2008 Royal Bank of Scotland
Consultant DBA

• Initially part of the 24 Support team for the Group Mortgage Capability project. This was a high profile and very large project. I was heavily involved in Support, problem resolution (including formulating and applying solutions to problems with the XML development kit and advanced queuing), productionisation of new technologies, backups and recovery (RMAN), performance tuning, application (SUMMIT) upgrades.
• After the GMS project I was retained by RBS and joined the Technical Development Lead team within the Oracle Projects team. This team was responsible for reviewing design documents of the numerous projects using Oracle to ensure that bank and team standards were being followed. In addition the team was responsible for productionising new technologies for the purpose of allowing other projects to use the new technologies. I was solely responsible for the productionisation, and introduction of Oracle 9i and 9i RAC to the bank.
• I was the (Oracle) technical lead of the Oracle High Availability for Core Web Security project, which was responsible for productionising (introducing and standardizing) Oracle 9i and 9i RAC (i.e. this was the first project within the bank to be migrated to Oracle 9i and 9i RAC). The Core Web Security system secures Internet and Intranet applications within the bank.
• I have over 3 years experience with 9i and 10g RAC and have a thorough understanding of TAF, load balancing, lock management, VIPs, VERITAS DBE and Clusterware amongst other attributes of RAC.
• Other projects worked on were Group Datawarehouse and Corporate Electronic Sales and Delivery.
• In August 2006 (after a short break) I re-joined Royal Bank of Scotland in the Production Support team as a member of the Oracle 10g Migration Programme which had a remit to upgrade the production databases to Oracle 10.2. As part of this programme I worked on the projects to introduce and install 10g RAC and 10g Application Server to the bank. I migrated the bank’s Reconciliation system and Image Signature Verification system to the 10g RAC Cluster.
• Design and deployment of Oracle 10g RAC to the bank. The design uses Oracle 10g RAC and Veritas SFRAC 4.1 on Solaris 10 clustered domains.
• Technical lead on the Oracle 10g Application Server project which designed and deployed 10g Application server in the bank for the first time, all Forms and reports applications are being migrated onto the Application server.
• Upgrades of the bank’s Fraud Profiling, Reconciliation, Coutts Optics, Image Signature Verification and Serious Fraud Detection systems to Oracle 10.2.
